Compress to KB: how it works
How to use the Image Compressor
- Choose one image or several at once (batch). Thumbnails show what you picked.
- Type the maximum size in KB, tap a preset (20, 50, 100, 200 KB), or pick an exam preset – the same target applies to every file.
- Optionally set a maximum width, e.g. if the form also asks for a pixel size.
- Press Compress, watch progress per file, then download each result or Download all (ZIP).
The result is always at or just under your target, which upload forms accept. If a form also has a minimum size (for example 10–20 KB), choose a target near the upper limit. For exact pixel sizes, use the Image Resizer first.
Resize: how it works
How to use the Image Resizer
- Choose an image. Its current size is shown.
- Pick a unit (pixels, cm, mm or inches) and enter the width and height; set DPI when using cm or inches.
- Choose how to fit: stretch to the exact size, fill and crop the centre, or fit inside with a border.
- Press Resize, check the preview and download.
Pixels = size in inches × DPI. For example 3.5 cm at 300 DPI is 413 pixels. The DPI you enter is written into JPG and PNG files, which some portals check. If the file is then too large in KB, run it through the Image Compressor.
Convert format: how it works
How to use the Image Format Converter
- Choose one or more images (JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP).
- Select the output format and quality.
- For JPG, pick the colour that replaces transparent areas (white by default).
- Press Convert and download the files one by one or as a ZIP.
JPG and JPEG are the same format. WebP gives the smallest files but some older portals do not accept it. PNG is lossless and best for screenshots and signatures with transparency.
🔒 Privacy: every mode runs entirely in your browser. Your files are never uploaded to Crop Desk or any other server.

Frequently asked questions
What KB size do SSC, IBPS, RRB, UPSC and NEET forms need?
Pick your exam in the “Exam form preset” list: it fills the KB range and pixel size in one tap (for example IBPS photo 20–50 KB at 200×230 px, signature 10–20 KB at 140×60 px). Values are typical figures from recent notices – always check the official notification.
Can I compress, resize and convert in one go?
Yes. Resize first (the Resize tab also accepts a KB limit), or convert to JPG and then compress. Each tab keeps your files on your device.
Why is my file 18 KB when I asked for 20 KB?
JPG size jumps in small steps as quality changes. The tool picks the highest quality that stays under your limit, so slightly smaller is normal.
Will my photo look blurry?
At 50 KB or more, photos usually look the same. Very small targets like 10 KB may reduce dimensions; that is still fine for form photos.
Can I compress PNG files?
Yes. PNGs are converted to JPG or WebP, which are far smaller. Transparent areas become white.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. All compression happens on your device using the Canvas API.
What DPI should I use for a passport photo?
300 DPI is standard for printing. Many online forms only check pixels and KB, so follow the numbers in your notification.
Why does my photo look stretched?
“Exact size” changes the proportions if the new shape differs from the original. Choose “Fill & crop centre” to keep faces natural.
Can I make a small image bigger?
Yes, but enlarging cannot add detail, so it may look soft.
Is the image uploaded?
No. Resizing is done in your browser.
Is JPEG the same as JPG?
Yes. They are two spellings of the same format; any form that asks for JPEG accepts .jpg files.
Can I convert HEIC iPhone photos?
Most browsers cannot open HEIC. On iPhone, set Camera › Formats › Most Compatible, or share the photo as JPG first.
How do I compress an image online for free without losing quality?
Resize to the pixel size you need first (for example 200×230 for a form, or about 1200 px wide for email), then set the target KB. Only lowering the quality of a huge phone photo makes it blurry. Crop Desk picks the highest quality that stays under your limit.
How small in KB can I compress a passport photo?
Many online forms ask for 20–50 KB; some accept 100–200 KB, and US visa (DS-160) photo uploads allow up to 240 KB. Pick a preset from the list or type a custom KB value. Your file stays on your device.
What is a photo resizer in KB?
It reduces a photo's file size to a limit such as 20 KB or 50 KB by lowering JPG quality and, if needed, the pixel size. Pick the KB target here and the tool finds the best quality that fits.
How do I resize an image to 100 KB without losing quality?
Start with a photo around 1000–1500 px wide, set 100 KB and compress. Most phone photos look the same at 100 KB. See compress image to 100 KB.
Which KB size do exam forms ask for?
Bank exams (SBI, IBPS) want 20–50 KB photos and 10–20 KB signatures; NEET accepts 10–200 KB photos. See the exam size table above or NEET photo size.
