Best results: a clear subject against a plain wall or uncluttered background. With AI on, an on-device AI cutout (MODNet) separates the person from any background. With AI off, the tool removes a plain background sampled from the image edges. Either way the photo never leaves your device.
1. Remove the background
Use the two brush modes to clean the cutout: erase background or restore parts of the subject. Brush over the preview; undo reverses a whole stroke.

Choose Erase or Restore, then drag over the photo. Close a loop with Erase to clear the whole enclosed area.
The preview and downloaded result keep the photo's aspect ratio. Very large images may be resized for device memory.
How it works
- Choose your photo. The tool samples several spots along the edges and automatically removes the most common connected plain background; use Pick a different background if it chose the wrong area.
- Adjust tolerance and edge softness. Use Erase background or Restore subject to refine the cutout.
- Choose a background: solid color, gradient, blurred original, another photo or transparency.
- Preview the result and download as PNG, JPG or WebP.
The automatic selection removes connected pixels that look like the color you pick. It works best on simple backgrounds. Complex backgrounds need more brush cleanup; the tool does not claim AI or official passport-photo compliance.

White, light blue and light grey are quick background choices often requested by form portals. Each authority can set its own photo background, size and file limit, so check the specific instructions before uploading.

Does this automatically detect a person?
No. It removes connected pixels similar to a background color you select. Use the brush to refine complex edges.
Can I save a transparent image?
Yes. Choose transparent background and download PNG or WebP. JPG does not support transparency.
Can I use the photo for every passport or exam form?
Check the authority's current rules for background color, dimensions and file size. This tool changes a background but does not certify official compliance.
