Frequently asked questions
Is this US passport photo tool free?
Yes. It is free, with no sign-up and no watermark. The site shows ads to pay for hosting.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. The photo is opened, cropped and saved inside your browser on your own device. Nothing is sent to Crop Desk.
What size is a US passport photo?
2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm). The head, from the bottom of the chin to the top of the hair, must be 1 to 1-3/8 inches (25 to 35 mm), which is 50% to 69% of the photo height.
What are the DS-160 visa photo requirements?
A square JPEG between 600 x 600 and 1200 x 1200 pixels, 240 KB or smaller, in color, taken within the last 6 months, with the head 50% to 69% of the image height and eyes 56% to 69% from the bottom, on a plain white or off-white background.
Can I print the photo at home or at a pharmacy?
Yes. Download the 4x6 print sheet, which holds six 2x2 copies at 300 DPI, and print it at actual size on 4x6 photo paper. Check one copy with a ruler and cut along the grey lines.
Can I wear glasses in my passport photo?
No. Glasses are not allowed in US passport and visa photos, except in rare medical cases with a signed doctor's statement.
What background color should I use?
Plain white or off-white for US photos, with no shadows or patterns. The tool warns you if the corners of your photo look darker than white.
Does this guarantee my photo will be accepted?
No tool can guarantee acceptance. The final decision is made by the passport or visa office. Follow the official requirements on travel.state.gov and the guides on this page.
