Some forms (PAN, UPSC, bank and state portals) reject a photo or signature because its DPI is 72 or 96. Check the current DPI and set 200, 300 or any value in a second – the picture itself is not changed.

How to change image DPI to 200
- First make the photo the right pixel size and KB with the Image Resizer or Image Compressor.
- Choose the JPG here – the current DPI and print size are shown.
- Pick 200 DPI (or what your form says) and press Convert DPI.
- Download and upload the new file. Size in KB changes by only a few bytes.
What DPI really means
DPI (dots per inch) is a number saved inside the file that tells a printer how big to print it. Pixels ÷ DPI = inches, and inches × 2.54 = cm. A 276 × 354 px photo at 200 DPI prints at 3.5 × 4.5 cm. Changing only the DPI does not make a blurry photo sharp – it just changes that label, which is exactly what portals that “check DPI” read.
| Need | Pixels at 200 DPI | Pixels at 300 DPI |
|---|---|---|
| 3.5 × 4.5 cm photo | 276 × 354 | 413 × 531 |
| 3 × 3 cm thumb | 236 × 236 | 354 × 354 |
| 6 × 2 cm signature | 472 × 157 | 709 × 236 |
Use “Change DPI + resize to cm size” when the form gives a size in cm. Windows shows DPI under right-click → Properties → Details.

Frequently asked questions
Does changing DPI reduce quality?
No. In “DPI only” mode the pixels are left exactly as they are; only the resolution value in the JPG (JFIF/EXIF) or PNG (pHYs) header is rewritten.
Why does my form say the DPI is wrong?
Phone and screenshot images are usually saved at 72 or 96 DPI. Portals that read the DPI field reject them even when the pixel size is right. Setting 200 or 300 DPI fixes that.
Will the KB size change?
Only by a few bytes in DPI-only mode, so a file that met the KB limit still meets it.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. Everything happens inside your browser and nothing is sent to any server.
