Free PDF Tools: Merge, Split, Compress & Convert

Everything you need for everyday PDFs in one place: merge and split, reorder and rotate pages, compress for upload limits, turn photos into a PDF, or save PDF pages as images. Pick a tab, drop your files and download – your documents never leave your device.

Merge & split: how it works

How to use the PDF Organizer

  1. Choose one or more PDF files. Every page appears as a numbered thumbnail; pages from several files are added one after another.
  2. Drag a thumbnail to a new position (or use ◀ ▶ on a phone). Press ⟳ to rotate a page by 90° and ✕ to delete it.
  3. To merge, press Download PDF – you get one file with all pages in the order shown.
  4. To split, tick pages and press Extract selected pages, press Split every page for a ZIP of single-page PDFs, or type ranges such as 1-3, 4-6.

Online application portals often ask for a single PDF with all documents, for example 10th and 12th marksheets together, under a fixed size. Organise the pages here first, then use the PDF Compressor if the merged file is too large. Text and quality of the original pages are kept exactly, because pages are copied, not re-printed.

Compress PDF: how it works

How to use the PDF Compressor

  1. Choose the PDF you want to make smaller. Its current size is shown.
  2. Pick a resolution and JPEG quality, or type a target size in KB to let the tool try levels until it fits.
  3. Tick Black & white for text documents – grey pages compress much better.
  4. Press Compress PDF, check the new size and download. Open the result once to confirm it is readable.

This method works best for scanned documents and photos saved as PDF, which is what most applicants upload. Because pages are re-drawn as images, text in a digitally created PDF will no longer be selectable; for such files a lower level may not save much. If the result is not smaller, simply keep your original.

JPG to PDF: how it works

How to use the Image to PDF

  1. Choose one or more images (JPG, PNG or WebP). Each becomes one page.
  2. Use ▲ ▼ to change the order and ✕ to remove an image.
  3. Choose A4 (most common in India), Letter, Legal, A5 or Fit to image, plus orientation and margin.
  4. Press Make PDF. The PDF downloads straight away.

Auto orientation turns landscape photos into landscape pages so nothing is shrunk unnecessarily. Choose “Smaller file” quality if the portal has a strict size limit, or run the result through the PDF Compressor.

PDF to JPG: how it works

How to use the PDF to Image

  1. Choose a PDF file.
  2. Pick JPG (smaller) or PNG (sharpest), and a resolution. 150 DPI is good for screens, 300 DPI for printing.
  3. Optionally type page numbers such as 1-2, 5; leave empty for all pages.
  4. Press Convert, then download single pages or the ZIP.

If the portal also has a KB limit, take the JPG to the Image Compressor and set a target such as 100 KB. Pages are named with the original file name and page number, so they stay in order.

🔒 Privacy: every mode runs entirely in your browser. Your files are never uploaded to Crop Desk or any other server.

Frequently asked questions

Are my PDFs uploaded to a server?

No. Merging, compressing and converting all happen inside your browser, so private documents never leave your phone or computer.

Is there a limit on the number of files or pages?

There is no fixed limit. Very large PDFs (hundreds of pages) depend on your device memory; on a phone, work with smaller batches.

Will merging reduce the quality?

No. Pages are copied as they are, so text stays sharp and searchable. Only rotation information is changed when you rotate.

Can I open password-protected PDFs?

PDFs that need a password to open cannot be read. Remove the password in the app you used to create it, then add it here.

Are my documents uploaded?

No. The PDF is opened and rebuilt inside your browser with the open-source pdf.js and pdf-lib libraries. Nothing is sent to a server.

How small can it make my PDF?

It depends on the number of pages and how detailed they are. A one-page scan usually drops to 100–300 KB at 150 DPI, and lower with 100 DPI and black & white.

Why did the size not go down?

PDFs that contain only text are already compact. Re-drawing them as images can make them bigger. In that case keep the original file.

Will the PDF still be readable?

At 150 DPI and 60% quality, normal printed text stays clear. Always zoom in and check before submitting an official form.

Is the file uploaded to compress it?

No. pdf.js draws each page in your browser and pdf-lib builds the new file on your device.

Which page size should I pick?

A4 is the standard paper size in India and most countries. Letter is used in the USA. “Fit to image” makes each page exactly the shape of the photo.

Can I add more images later?

Yes. Choose files again and they are added to the end of the list.
