SSC Photo and Signature Size 2026 (CGL, GD, CHSL, MTS)

Updated 31 October 2026 · Based on SSC notices for Constable (GD) 2026 and Junior Engineer 2026 on ssc.gov.in

SSC photo size: on the new ssc.gov.in portal you do not upload a photo file – the form captures a live photo with your webcam or phone camera. SSC signature size: JPEG, 10–20 KB, about 6.0 cm × 2.0 cm (width × height).

Figures are from the SSC Constable (GD) 2026 and Junior Engineer 2026 notices. SSC can change rules in any notice (for example CGL 2027 or GD 2027), so always check the notice for your exam on ssc.gov.in before you submit.

SSC live photo rules – how to pass the camera check

  • Sit in good, even light in front of a plain, light-coloured wall.
  • Keep the camera at eye level and look straight into it; your full face must sit inside the on-screen frame.
  • No cap, mask or spectacles. Do not photograph an old printed photo – SSC rejects such forms.
  • No webcam on your laptop? The upload page shows a QR code so you can capture the photo on your phone.
  • Forms submitted with Aadhaar-based authentication are not rejected for photo or signature quality, as per the notice.

How to make the SSC signature 10–20 KB

  1. Sign with a black pen on plain white paper. Use your normal running signature, not capital letters.
  2. Scan it or take a sharp phone photo in daylight, then crop tightly around the ink with photo crop.
  3. If the paper looks grey, clean it with the signature background remover (choose white background, JPG).
  4. Tap the Signature 6×2 cm, 18 KB button above, or open compress to 20 KB. Aim for 15–19 KB, not exactly 20 KB.
  5. If the file is under 10 KB, raise the quality or dimensions slightly so it lands inside 10–20 KB.

Which SSC exams use these rules?

The same ssc.gov.in One-Time Registration (OTR) and application flow is used for CGL, CHSL, GD Constable, MTS, Selection Post, Stenographer and JE. The signature limit of 10–20 KB has stayed the same across recent notices; one CGL annexure mentions about 4.0 × 2.0 cm instead of 6.0 × 2.0 cm, so read the annexure of your own notice.

Common reasons SSC forms get rejected

  • Blurred, very small (“miniature”) or capital-letter signature.
  • Live photo with cap, spectacles, dark room or face cut off.
  • Capturing a photo of an existing printed photograph.
  • Signature saved as PNG or just over 20 KB.

Frequently asked questions

What is the SSC photo size in 2026?

SSC no longer asks for a photo file on the new portal. The application captures a live photograph through your webcam or phone camera, so there is no KB or pixel size to prepare.

What is the SSC signature size in KB?

The signature must be a JPEG between 10 KB and 20 KB, about 6.0 cm wide and 2.0 cm high, signed in black ink.

What is the SSC signature size in pixels?

SSC gives the size in cm (about 6.0 × 2.0 cm). At 200 DPI that is roughly 472 × 157 pixels, which comfortably fits 10–20 KB as a JPG.

Can I upload my old passport photo for SSC GD or CGL?

No. The photo must be captured live during the application. Photographing a printed photo leads to rejection.

What if my laptop has no webcam?

Use the QR code on the upload page to capture the photo on your phone, or apply through the mySSC mobile app.
